Things to Do

Walking and Cycling

The rolling hills in the local area are ideally suited to walking and cycling. The

Nene Way footpath passes down the road and follows the river valley and there

are also a network of public footpaths leading from the village that allow you to

explore nearby nature reserves, woods and limestone pastures.

Fishing

Fly fishing is available by day ticket from boat or bank at Rutland Water (15 mins), Grafham Water (25 mins),

Eyebrook Reservoir (30 mins) and Pitsford Reservoir (40 mins). Discounted 3 day passes are available which

allow you to fish at any of the Anglian Water reservoirs and tuition and ghillies can also be arranged.

Coarse fishing is available by day ticket on the village stretch of the River Nene as well as numerous still waters.

The rivers Welland and Great Ouse are also nearby.

Birdwatching

Red Kites and Buzzards are regularly seen soaring over the village. The RSPB have an observation camera that

allows you to see live pictures of a Red Kites nest at nearby Top Lodge and in the winter you can go on a guided

walk at dusk to see dozens of Red Kites coming in to roost for the evening.

Rutland Water is an internationally important site for birds and since their reintroduction over 10 years ago,

Ospreys now breed on and around the reservoir. Visit the Rutland nature reserve and lagoons at Egleton to

find out more, have a chance to see an Osprey hunting and see footage on their webcams.  Rutland Water

also hosts the International Bird Fair in August.

Sailing

Day sailing and tuition is available at Rutland Water and Tallington Lakes (near Stamford). Other water sports

are also available at both these locations.
